The Gateways are a network of eleven Emergency Response Agency space stations orbiting high above Earth. The stations were designed to allow rapid response to any international catastrophes by deploying a fleet of dropships from above anywhere in the world. These stations became humanity's last hope after the Dinosaur infestation that overtook Earth.

History[]

Considered ERA's crowning achievement, eleven stations were constructed in high orbit of the Earth, allowing the disaster relief teams to deploy quickly to any location on the planet. Construction was plagued by setbacks, however, when the crisis on Earth grew worse, the budget skyrocketed as a need for the stations became apparent. If the need arose, the stations would be able to provide long-term refuge for thousands of people.

The Gateways would become permanent homes and bases for the ERA, and a vital asset in humanity's survival against the Dinosaur threat.[1] With the Dinosaurs overtaking Earth's surface, the ERA orchestrated a mass evacuation that resulted in roughly 40,000 survivors being evacuated to each Gateway. In the following few years, the ERA would continue rescue efforts, bringing any survivors back to the Gateways.[2]

At some point after the evacuations, Gateway Cygnus mysteriously lost contact with the other stations. This lead to speculation that something might have happened to the other Gateways. [3] Under the ERA, the human resistance had regrouped and had begun using Cygnus as a base of operations. Teams of volunteers were sent down to Earth in an attempt to gather essential resources, weapons, and information about the Dinosaurs. [4]

Trivia[]

  • The Gateways are most likely named as a reference to Gateway Station, the space station from the 1986 Aliens film.
